This is a teaching and planning guide for the Class Three main lesson ‘Genesis’.
This main lesson is the first of the Hebrew Scriptures story main lessons that are taught throughout the year in class (grade) three. These stories meet the child developmentally with the fall from paradise, and the very real, human struggles the Israelites face, while continually searching for a new relationship with the spiritual world.
The block has a strong literacy focus, with skill development focussed on composition writing (in particular learning about paragraph writing and grammar – parts of speech). The academic learning is enlivened by rich and diverse stories, review ideas, and artistic work.
In this guide you will find:
- an overview of the class three child and curriculum
- suggested weekly and daily rhythms for teaching this block
- morning circle ideas
- suggested resources
- day-by-day planning, including suggestions for review, new material, bookwork and stories
- examples of student work
- ideas and templates for teacher and student post-assessment and skills tracking
